Amazing food and service
My girlfriend and I went here for a nice quiet dinner, they say is out side in there beautifully decorated patio area and the server was very friendly. The owner sat us himself truly salt of the earth people and we enjoyed our experience thoroughly.
First Rate Beer List
Took my son, an avid beer fan, here for his birthday after finding about the place on Ratebeer.com. Turned out to be a wonderful evening - fantastic beer list, food was great, and the atmosphere was very comfortable. Our server messed up one of the burger orders, but that was probably our fault. Drinks, dinner, dessert and tip was about $40 a person.
Mediocre at best
When you eat your food and wished you had cooked at home, you know its bad. The food was just so bland. I had the alligator sausage - well presented but just had no flavor. My husband had the grilled cheese - the cheese was cold and we were quite literally the only patrons there on a Friday night. It's sad because the concept is fun and the beer list is great! Our server was lovely and it's really just too bad they can't get their food together.
Disappointing again
I've been here five or six times. I feel like it keeps getting worse. Latest time was a Sunday brunch. Eggs were fine. But everything else was so-so, especially the chicken schnitzel which was laden with oil and had clearly been prepared a day or two earlier and then just reheated. Plus the service was beyond disinterested despite an almost empty abode.
Great beer selection
Great beer selection, and the staff is knowledgeable to help you select. I tried a sour beer, which I never would have gotten and was surprised that I liked it.
Short ribs are good. I am not much in to sausages these days, so that cuts out a lot of their menu.
I like the outdoor patio, which is pretty, and generally quieter than inside, but when they have events they put them out there, or the room in the front, making the noise level too high!
Not So Great
Walked in at 1:30 on a weekday. 2 customers at the bar in the entire restaurant. Strange feeling but the bartender/server was just as good as can be. Food was OK but not worth going back for, although he told us the fish and chips were excellent, so we might try again.
Loud!
Hung out with a friend of mine and it was almost too loud. Maybe it was the acoustics, combined with Trivia Night, combined with a table of self-important millenials that made it louder than it usually is but it was brutal!
As for the food, they had some interesting sausage choices (Alligator & Portk, Armenian Exotic(??)) and found their 3-sausage choice quite enjoyable.
Great hospitality and great food
The food and ambience at Steingarten were great! The service was spectacular. Plus, we were there early enough to enjoy happily hour and stayed late enough to enjoy late happy hour again! Our server was the most gracious host and we had a group with our own private seating and dining area.
The restaurant is set up for multiple private dining and drinking experiences as well as karaoke.
The drinks are bell made and delicious. Our party had an amazing time celebrating my brother's birthday and we will definitely be returning to this location to experience it again!
Earnest but inexperienced service (slow, ...
Earnest but inexperienced service (slow, numerous trips back and forth to the kitchen because no one uses trays), food was forgettable and some was just bad (chocolate cake was bland and oddly crispy, waffle tasted good but was soft). Fyi, the buns for the sausages are extra. Didn't know that.

Really great beer, wine and cocktail list. We loved the cocktails and they're made with really fresh herbs and berries. Amazing burgers, we get those every time and we also like the sausages and fries. Its fun to try a different sausage each time and some are pretty unique. All in all a great place with nice servers too!
Off beat happy hour
Steingarten is a German restaurant, and we were there for Happy Hour. Their very reasonably priced HH menu ($5 small bites and $4 mixed drinks) included a variety of sausages (including veggie options), which arrived on rolls with a choice of toppings and mustard. Parking is easy and it's a quick drive from UCLA on a quiet stretch of Pico. A lively crowd, but not so noisy as to make catching up with co-workers difficult. All in all a great find. We'll be back!
overall disappointing. only 2 other tab ...
overall disappointing. only 2 other tables in the restaurants and it took over 30 minutes to get our meals. the service was slow, the beer selection was vast but too eclectic and not German enough. the décor was Kay n Dave's all over again. I really wish it was better!
Good Food and Great Beer
Went to Steingarten for the Ballast Point pint night and we had a blast. The service was really great and made sure we had anything we needed and then some. Food was excellent as well. We're already trying to plan another trip for one of the upcoming nights that highlight specific brewers. Also, we were blown away at the beer offering that they keep on hand. Some very VERY hard to find stuff there.
Uber cute German Resturant
I've been to this restaurant three times now and it is quickly becoming a favorite place of mine. It has great German food along with other favorites to order. The Beer list is very defined with a vast selection. The service was great and a wonderfully friendly staff. Has a wonderful outside back patio seating and a fire pit for more romantic setting. The website is easy to review and the free reservation selection is incredibly helpful since I have gone now with two big groups. I would recommend this location to anyone with a few friends, a date or just a small lunch.
Great food, Great staff
We went to Steingarten LA to watch the World Cup final. We were a group of 8 people. The ambiance was great-the place was filled with energetic soccer fans. Regardless of the large crowd, the staff was attentive and helpful.
One thing that stood out on the menu was their Vegas sausages. I tried one and it was so delicious! Didn't taste vegan at all! Highly recommend you try one of the 3 choices. They have a large beer selection as well.
Great place, I will be back.
Great beer good food
Steingarten is a nice little neighborhood place with amazing rotating and fixed beer menus, thorough whiskey offerings, and an interesting cocktail menu that I have never sampled because the beer options are just too good to pass up. Their grass-fed yet reasonably priced burgers are juicy and really tasty. I had two of their sausages, lamb (great) and elk (meh) and the rolls they come on are delicious. A lot of sausage selections ranging from familiar (all beef kosher) to exotic (alligator, game). The ambiance is really special, indoor are communal tables and a cozy atmosphere, and the outdoor patio is beautiful with ample seating and a nice fireplace you can sit around. Highly recommended for a casual dinner in the neighborhood.
Very Tasty!
Every time I've gone to Steingarten, it's been a pleasant experience. The food, service, and ambience are excellent. A casual dining experience that must be tried for well made burgers, sausages, sides, and unique beer list. I must add that on my last visit I tried their chicken wings.... I must go again soon to order those again! The well-seasoned abundant sauce, the crunchy skin, and tender meat....oh so good & very original tasting! This last visit, we were a party of 7 and everyone was pleased and very satisfied.
Loved this place
Came here with six people to celebrate a law school graduation. Everything was wonderful--appetizers, drinks and food. I especially liked the fact that we could make a reservation between 6 and 8 pm. We also loved the staff. We'll be back again!
The Best Beer & Sausage Place in LA
Steingarten LA is an amazing find for foodies who appreciate attention to detail. The homemade mustards and curried catsup are so flavorful and the sausages are as delicious as they are varied. Be sure to have your Bratwurst or or other sausage on a homemade pretzel roll. The selection of beers, ales and other brews is exceptional - probably the largest in Los Angeles. Next time you are at the Landmark Theatre or Westside Pavilion on Pico, be sure to stop by Steingarten for a tasty and satisfying snack or meal. I brought my foodie gal pals there for the first time and they loved the beet salad, cole slaw and sweet potato fries as much as the beer and sausages, too. Melissa P
Absolutely Awesome!
Everything on the menu is super tasty and flavorful, fresh, and super exciting! What you eat at Steingarten is unlike anything that you can find any place else!!! One of my favorite restaurants, especially when I am craving a big juicy tasty burger or some really mouth watering exotic sausages!!! Cool place to go with friends or co-workers.
This is a local spot for me
This is a local spot for me and it's very comfortable. It can get loud but generally there are corner tables that are very comfy. I love the outdoor patio and fie pit. The servers are very sweet and accommodating and the bar is ample, especially for beer lovers. There ae plenty of tasty options.
A great place to relax and imbibe
I can't comment on the wine list. I'm sure it's great, like everthing else at Steingarten. But I go there for the always great, always changing beer menu. They've always got sours, my wife's beer of choice, and since I like to keep her happy, a bar with sour beer in hand is quickly becoming how I determine a place knows their stuff. Overall Steingarten concentrates on local, Belgian and German beers, and the cocktails are great too. With quality mixology there can sometimes be a wait, but there's no other place I enjoy spending time at, so I'm not in a rush. My wife and I are always impressed with the genuinely nice waitstaff. The new late night happy hour is welcome. I hope to be over to our favorite place more often.
Great Find
Went here for lunch on a Saturday. I have heard of it but never been. So glad I went. The beer list is very extensive. The sausages are very good (I recommend getting the 3 option). The nachos are very good, using potato discs instead of corn chips. Flavors were very good and our server Erik was very good. Looking forward to going back!
OMG the Beer!
Found Steingarten on Open Table when looking for a convenient place for 7diners of 3 generations. Wow, did we luck out! Early dinner (for the elders), place was very quiet. Food excellent: turkey burgers, sliders, amazing sausages, warm pretzels, incredible red cabbage slaw and great fries. Beer menu knocked our socks off, though: really sophisticated and comprehensive. Great Belgian selection, some hard-to-find draft choices (like a German grut bier, if that's what it was). Didn't discover the bar until we were leaving: eyes drawn by lineup of a dozen different bitters and jars of garnishes. Missed the chance to try some very elaborate concoctions featuring ingredients like velvet falernum, yellow chartreuse, and Thai basil.
Great Food
We celebrated 4 Birthdays on a Sunday and did the Brunch at the Steingarten. The menu choices are a bit slim, specially the starters on the brunch menue but the food was very good. The Bloody Mary needs a little work - to watery and looks like a very sad drink. Service was a bit slow but we might come back and try dinner.
